Sublime smoothie


There is a place in Toronto that sells my most favourite smoothie – a date almond and banana smoothie. It's almost more like a thick milkshake – rich, creamy, sweet and not even bad for you!

Having found my favourite but no longer living anywhere near the place that makes them, I have had to recreate this delicious treat at home. The base is bananas – I freeze mine so they add another texture of cold banana goodness, dates (make sure to take out the pits!), almond butter -- it has to be almond, peanut butter is not the same (trust me I’ve tried and failed) --, soy milk and a touch of cinnamon.
Fresh and perfect for a breakfast or anytime you need something sweet and filling. Try it out and you won’t be disappointed.

date-almond smoothie
serves 2 big glasses or 4 small

1 large banana (or 2 small), frozen
4 dried dates, pitted (use less or more depending on desired sweetness)
pinch cinnamon
1 tbsp almond butter
1 1/2 – 2 cups soy milk

Place banana, dates, cinnamon and almond butter in blender and add 1 cup of soy milk –
puree until desired smoothness reached, adding more soy milk as you
blend to get the right consistency. Simple and delicious!

  1. this looks amazing...what a yummy combo! i need to learn to make my own almond butter now! tried to use dates in my smoothie last time..but maybe my blender sucks..it didn't really blend it properly ><

  4. Sounds and looks delicious. Beautiful photography as always. Can I ask you...do you peel your bananas before you freeze them because I freeze bananas for smoothies/cakes etc but find they are hard to peel once frozen.
